KU graduate tapped to lead Indiana college

A Kansas University graduate has been appointed president of Manchester College.

Jo Young Switzer will lead the 1,100-student college in North Manchester, Ind. She received her master’s degree in communication studies from KU in 1977 and her doctorate in speech communication and human relations in 1980.

Switzer has served as vice president for academic affairs since 1993. She also chaired Manchester’s communication department and taught at Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne, Ind.

She received her bachelor’s degree in 1969 from Manchester.

Bicycle ride to raise funds for MS research

The MS150 bike tour Sept. 11 and 12 in Lee’s Summit, Mo., will raise money and awareness to fight multiple sclerosis.

The race is 150 miles long through Missouri.

Funds raised by the event help more than 25,000 individuals with MS. Cyclists can expect frequent rest stops and catered meals.

To join the bike tour, register online at www.msmidamerica. org or call (800) FIGHT-MS. Participants must pay a registration fee of $50, and must turn in registration at packet pick-up locations and or on the morning of the event.

Nader secures spot on ballot in Kansas

Ralph Nader will be on the ballot in Kansas as the Reform Party’s presidential candidate, according to the Secretary of State’s Office.

The office received documents Tuesday from the national Reform Party certifying Nader as its nominee.

Such a certification is all that’s required of the nominees of the state’s four recognized parties: Democratic, Republican, Libertarian and Reform.
