Topeka ? Free State High’s volleyball team went undefeated Tuesday at the Topeka High quadrangular.

The Firebirds beat Blue Valley West, 25-20, 19-25, 25-22; Tonganoxie, 25-15, 25-14; and Topeka High, 25-14, 25-18.

Megan Wyatt had 33 assists; Jenny Heppert 17 kills and 16 blocks; and Katelin Karlin 21 kills and 20 blocks for Free State.

“We came from a deficit in the third game against Blue Valley West and showed a lot of character,” Free State coach Nancy Hopkins said. “Those last two games we played real consistently in the last two matches and pretty much dominated as evident by the number of blocks and kills we had.”

Free State (25-12) will play Saturday at the Lawrence High sub-state.

The Firebirds figure to be a No. 3 seed in the eight-team event which includes Olathe South, Olathe East, Lawrence High, Leavenworth, Olathe Northwest, Topeka High and Olathe North.
