Olathe — Olathe North's soccer team shut down Free State High and handed the Firebirds their third straight loss, 2-0, Tuesday at Olathe District Activities Center.
Olathe North scored the first goal with 10 minutes left in the first half and iced the game with another goal with three minutes remaining in the second half as Free State scrambled to get on the scoreboard.
"We were really pressing and trying to get the tying goal to get it into overtime," FSHS coach Jason Pendleton said, "and ended up getting burned as a result."
Pendleton said he planned to shuffle his lineup before the Firebirds' 4 p.m. Senior Day game Thursday against Shawnee Mission Northwest at Free State.
"We haven't really played that well in all three losses," said Pendleton, whose team fell to 9-4-1.
"We've been playing hard, but we have to come out and execute Thursday against Shawnee Mission Northwest. We're going to mix things up and find people who can make plays and execute under pressure."
