Bottom line

The Lawrence City Commission will receive a Federal Emergency Management Agency report upgrading the city’s flood insurance rating.

Background

FEMA upgraded the rating after the city approved new floodplain development restrictions in 2002. The result will be a 10 percent discount on National Flood Insurance Program policies issued after Oct. 1.

  • Bid and purchase items:

c) Award bid for scrap and surplus property sale for the Utilities Department to the highest bid offer.

  • Adopt Ordinance No. 7832 rezoning a tract of land approximately 20.0294 acres from agricultural district to planned residential development district. The property is generally described as being located north of West Sixth Street along Congressional Drive. This rezoning was approved by the city commission on Oct. 23, 2001, subject to approval of a preliminary development plan and provision of a revised legal description. The commission approved the preliminary development plan for 6Wak Apartments on March 9, 2004. Staff recently received the revised legal description.
  • Adopt the following ordinances on second and final reading:

a) Ordinance No. 7835, annexing approximately one acre generally located north of Riverridge Road and east of North Iowa Street (John Joyce tract). The property owner has requested annexation and the Utilities Department recommends the annexation to allow the property owner to connect to city water service.

b) Ordinance No. 7827, allowing possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages on certain city property pursuant to a Qdoba Mexican Grill Sidewalk Dining License.

Regular agenda

  • Receive report from the Federal Emergency Management Agency Division of Water Resources on the city of Lawrence receiving a Class 8 rating on the Community Rating System in its application to the National Flood Insurance Program.
  • Consider approving a site plan for Fire Station No. 5 to be constructed at the southeast corner of 19th and Iowa streets. Submitted by Sabatini Architects, Inc. for the city of Lawrence. University Endowment Association is the property owner of record.
  • Receive Road Safety Audit from Kansas Department of Transportation.
  • Receive 2004 Intersection Improvement Priorities report.
