To the editor:

In my wildest imagination I would never have linked columnist Cal Thomas with funnyman Groucho Marx. Until Thomas’ Oct. 12 column, that is, when Thomas argued that the presidential debates should be listened to on radio rather than watched on TV. Apparently, truth for Thomas is best received through the ears and one’s imagination and without contamination by the eyes. Groucho, too! When Groucho was caught by his girlfriend in a two-timing act with another woman, the verbally resourceful Groucho acknowledged no wrongdoing and went on the offensive: “Are you going to believe me or your own eyes?” Groucho’s absurdity got a huge laugh in the movie house.
