Lauren Richard ‘Dick’ Johnson

Mr. Johnson died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City.

He was born Sept. 23, 1929, in Lawrence, Kan., the son of William and Ethel Hubbard Johnson. He graduated from Kansas State University, where he was president of his senior class.

Mr. Johnson served in U.S. Army. He taught driver’s education and was assistant principal at Mainland High School from 1963 to 1996. He played football, baseball and basketball at Kansas State University and was assistant football coach and former baseball coach at Mainland High School. He also played semi-professional baseball. He was a member of the board of directors at Florida Health Care for 25 years.

Survivors include his wife, Martha, of the home; two sons; a daughter, Jyan Colt, Daytona Beach; and a grandchild.

Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home in DeLand is in charge of arrangements.
