HINU heads to Peru State

? Peru State two-time All-American wide receiver Scott Beveridge will have a shadow today.

“We expect to have Cory Murphy on him all day,” Haskell Indian Nations University football coach Eric Brock said.

Murphy, a freshman cornerback who has four interceptions, will face his biggest test of the season when the Fightin’ Indians tangle with the Bobcats today. Kickoff will be at 1 p.m.

Murphy, a 5-foot-9, 175-pounder from Norman, Okla., was named the Central States Football League co-defensive player of the week after intercepting three passes in Saturday’s 44-17 win at Southwestern Assemblies of God U. Murphy also had a 70-yard punt return.

Peru State is winless in five starts, but the Bobcats’ record is deceptive because three of the defeats were inflicted by NCAA Division II schools — South Dakota, Southwest Minnesota State and Wayne State.

Haskell and Peru State have one common CSFL foe — Southern Nazarene. Four weeks ago, SNC clipped Haskell, 30-10, in Bethany, Okla. However, Peru State led the Crimson Storm late before bowing, 16-13, two weeks ago.

Last weekend, Northwestern Oklahoma State, a team Haskell will meet in two weeks, smashed Peru State, 59-0.

Haskell (3-3) will make its third straight road trip Oct. 16 when the Indians travel to Tyler, Texas, to meet Texas College.
