Richard and Harriet Shaffer, Lawrence, and Fred and Roberta Birnbaum, Golden, Colo., announce the engagement of their children, Carol Shaffer and Brian Birnbaum, both of Denver.

The bride-to-be is a 1995 graduate of Lawrence High School. She received a degree in secondary education in 1999 from Kansas University. She plans to graduate in December with a master’s degree in instruction and learning technology at the University of Colorado at Denver. She teaches middle school computer classes at Falcon Creek Middle School in the Cherry Creek school district.

The future groom is a 1995 graduate of Alameda High School, Lakewood, Colo. He received a degree in chemical and petroleum refining engineering in 1999 from the Colorado School of Mines. He is in his third year of medical school at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.

The couple plan a Dec. 18 wedding in Denver.

The future bride is a 1996 graduate of Lawrence High School. She received a bachelor’s degree in business management from Kansas State University in 2001. She is employed with Procter and Gamble.

The future groom is a 1996 graduate of Lawrence High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in business marketing from K-State in 2001. He is employed with KU Credit Union.

The couple plan a Dec. 5 wedding at Disney’s Polynesian Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. A reception is planned for Dec. 18 at the Union Pacific Depot in Lawrence.
