Calvary Temple Assembly of God

Kids Krusade will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 S.W. 29th St. Terrace.

Theme is “Cowboys and Cowgirls for Jesus.” Event is for children ages 3 to 14. Adults are invited to attend the event, which will feature singing, memory verses and prizes.

First Christian Church

A drama called “Church in a Box” will be performed at the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday worship services at First Christian Church, 1000 Ky.

Small groups will continue to meet throughout the week, participating in the “40 Days of Purpose” program. For more information, call 843-0679.

The African Children’s Choir will perform at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 at the church.

First United Methodist Church

Sunday Night Live! will start with a meal at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt.

C.R. Snyder, a member of Kansas University’s faculty since 1972, will speak at 6 p.m. in Brady Hall. Snyder is known for his theories and research on how people react to personal feedback, the need for uniqueness, the ubiquitous drive to excuse transgressions and the human hope motive.

His presence is one part of a study on hope and is given in conjunction with the study of “Hope Dies Last: Keeping the Faith in Troubled Times” by Studs Terkel.

It’s the first book being studied in “What’s the Pastor Reading?” and is led by Neva Merriman. Group meets from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sundays, starting this weekend, at the church.

Divorce Recovery Group will begin Sunday with a meal at 5:30 p.m.

This is a six-week study using the book “Starting Again: A Divorce Recovery Program” by Sandra Scott. It is for those who have gone through a divorce or are going through one.

Lawrence Baptist Temple

Lawrence Baptist Temple, 3201 W. 31st St., will celebrate its 28th anniversary Sunday with an all-church picnic.

All former and present members are asked to participate.

Worship services are at 10 a.m.

Lawrence Wesleyan Church

Members of Lawrence Wesleyan Church, 3705 Clinton Parkway, continue their 40-day journey using the Rev. Rick Warren’s book, “The Purpose Driven Life.”

The second purpose in the book is “You Were Formed for God’s Family,” which looks at the value of fellowship. Copies of the book will be given out at no charge while supplies last.

Sermon series based on Warren’s book will continue for five weeks. Sunday school classes and home-based groups that meet throughout the week will study topics from the book during the 40-day program.

New members will be introduced during both Sunday services.

The annual fall party will start at 4 p.m. at the home of Steve and Gretchen Regnier. Participants are asked to bring a meat of their choice for grilling and a side dish to share.

The event will feature pony rides, hay rides and a bonfire.

Lone Star Church of the Brethren

Lone Star Church of the Brethren, 883 E. 800 Road, will have a pancake-and-sausage supper at 5 p.m. Oct. 18.

Ninth Street Baptist Church

Ninth Street Baptist Church, 847 Ohio, will have a revival from 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.

Guest pastor will be the Rev. Keith Cullors, of Greater New Testament Church, Wichita.

Perry United Methodist Church

Perry United Methodist Church, 220 Oak St., will have its annual bazaar and dinner Nov. 6.

A sale of craft items and baked goods will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Elswick Hall.

There will be prize drawings for a blue-and-white quilt with an Old Tippecanoe pattern; a crocheted afghan; and a patriotic throw.

There will be children’s activities and games.

Dinner will be served from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children (12 and under). The menu: smothered steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, cole slaw, rolls and butter, homemade pie, and tea or coffee.

Auction of unsold bazaar items will start at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

Plymouth Congregational Church

As part of the ongoing sesquicentennial celebration at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt., the chancel choir on Sunday will perform a new composition built around the Plymouth Covenant by Robert Foster.

New members will be welcomed into the congregation at both Sunday worship services.

Fifth- and sixth-graders will meet from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the bowling alley.

Trails United Methodist Men

Trails United Methodist Men will be host a benefit spaghetti supper from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Baldwin Ives Chapel Methodist Church.

Freewill donations will help Tony Ikenberry serve on a mission trip to Kenya.

Trinity Episcopal Church

There will be a reception for Dick and Carolyn Wagstaff, following the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt. Given by their children, the event will celebrate the couple’s 50th anniversary Saturday.

The Rev. Jonathon Jensen will bless the animals of the parish at 1:30 p.m. Sunday on the church lawn. All animals participating will receive a St. Francis medal.

Nancy Kelley, director of the church’s acolyte program, and the Rev. Sam Mason, assistant to the rector, will welcome both new and experienced acolytes for pizza and pop at 3 p.m. Sunday in the parish hall. Any youth from 9 to 18 may participate.

Trinity Episcopal Grandmothers Group will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the home of Jeannot Seymour. All grandmothers are welcome.

Trinity Lutheran Church

“Light and the Sacred,” a program focusing on the use of light to evoke the sacred worship spaces throughout the centuries, will be Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H.

The event will begin with a Vespers service at 6:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary, dessert at 7 p.m. and the program at 7:30 p.m. Featuring Michael Shaughnessy of Shaughnessy, Rickel and Scott Architects.

This is the first in a series of events through the year entitled “A Cloud of Witnesses” and sponsored by the Shekinah Arts Ministry at Trinity. It seeks to incorporate the visual arts, drama, dance, poetry, literature and film into the church’s life and witness.

Monthly communion coffee will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the chapel. A fellowship time will follow the service.

Quilters are invited to join the sewing/work day at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the church’s social room. Potluck meal served at noon.

Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence

Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, 1263 N. 1100 Road, will have a spiritual celebration, “The Sacred Depths of Nature,” from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Sunday.

Ellen Reid Gold will give a report on politics from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., followed by coffee and fellowship from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

West Side Presbyterian Church

West Side Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold Drive, is planning a Christmas pageant.

Congregational dinner and mission fair will be Oct. 17, following worship services. Mission fair is a multimedia expression of the missions, service and outreach of the church.

Worden United Methodist Church

Faith Weavers, a ministry for children in kindergarten through fifth grade, will be from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Worden United Methodist Church.

It features snacks, crafts, games, Bible stories and music. It is a nondenominational program open to the community’s children.

For children in the Baldwin schools, there is a bus that will pick them up at the elementary building and the intermediate center building. Children must be registered.
