Services for Dwane C. Schaake, Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Schaake died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Lawrence, the son of Charles August and Isabelle Grammer Schaake. He graduated from Lawrence Memorial High School and attended Kansas State University.

Mr. Schaake served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He was a retired farmer, stockman and businessman involved with real estate development in Pleasant Grove Estates and Pine-e-wa Estates. He also was a seed salesman and car-wash owner.

He was a member of First Methodist Church, Farmer’s Co-op Board of Directors, Douglas County Farm Bureau, Wakarusa Township Board and Douglas County Extension Council.

Mr. Schaake, a former Meadowlark 4-H Club leader, had received honors including Friend of 4-H, 1949 FFA State Farmer, 1978 Douglas County 4-H Family of the Year and 1985 Kansas 4-H Family of the Year. He had been a Douglas County Free Fair superintendent and volunteer and was a member of Douglas County and Kansas 4-H alumni groups.

He married Dorothy Black in Oskaloosa. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Jill Schaake Morgison, Lawrence; a son, Mark D., Bonner Springs; a sister, Janie Schaake Harris, Lawrence; four grandchildren; and a stepgrandson.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Douglas County 4-H Foundation or the First United Methodist Church organ fund, sent in care of the mortuary.
