Law enforcement report

  • Lawrence Police are investigating a report that a man exposed himself to a jogger Sept. 28 as she ran on a jogging trail in the 2700 block of Winterbrook Drive.

The woman, a 41-year-old from Baldwin, told police she was jogging about 4:50 p.m. when a man approached her coming the opposite direction and exposed himself. She said she ran after the man and told him she would call police, but he ran away.

Sgt. Dan Ward, a Lawrence Police spokesman, advised residents not to chase after a suspect if they find themselves in a similar situation.

  • A 40-year-old Wichita man made a first appearance Wednesday in District Court on a charge that he had sex with an acquaintance under age 14, a crime classified as rape.

The crime allegedly happened between June 2000 and June 2001, but it wasn’t reported to police until September.

He was in the Douglas County Jail Wednesday with bond set at $100,000.

Burglaries and thefts reported

  • A 50-year-old Spring Hill man reported $3,435 in power tools taken between Friday and Tuesday from the 1300 block of Kentucky Street.
  • Someone took a $2,000 laptop computer, $350 Sony PlayStation and $375 digital camera from an apartment in the 1000 block of Ohio Street. The theft happened between 1 p.m. Sept. 30 and 8 p.m. Saturday.
  • Someone took a Topeka Capital-Journal newspaper rack valued at $1,000 from the 700 block of Massachusetts Street. It happened between 1 a.m. and 4:15 a.m. Tuesday.
