Lennon killer denied parole

Attica, N.Y. — John Lennon’s killer will remain in prison for at least two more years after being denied parole Tuesday because of the “extreme malicious intent” he showed in gunning down the former Beatle in 1980.

Mark David Chapman, 49, was notified of the decision late Tuesday after appearing before a three-member panel earlier in the day.

“During the interview your statement for motivation acknowledges the attention you felt this murder would generate,” the board wrote in its single-page decision. “Although proven true, such rationale is bizarre and morally corrupt.”

Chapman became eligible for release after serving 20 years of a maximum life sentence. His next appearance before the parole board will be in October 2006.

Foxx has new ‘Vice’

The news is all good for Jamie Foxx these days.

The “Collateral” star, tagged as a Best Oscar favorite for portraying the life of Ray Charles in the upcoming “Ray,” says he’ll be working with director Michael Mann in the near future for a third time — reuniting for the big screen adaptation of ’80s cop show “Miami Vice.”

“Yeah, man, it’s happening,” Foxx tells Latino Review, confirming rumors that he will be portraying Detective Ricardo Tubbs.

No word yet on who might be playing the role of Detective James “Sonny” Crockett or if Mann plans to make this an action/drama or a comedy spoof such as Starsky and Hutch.

Moore vs. Bush, Kerry, MLB

Minneapolis — Liberal filmmaker Michael Moore will speak Friday at the University of Minnesota.

Moore, the director of “Fahrenheit 9/11,” is on a “Slacker Uprising Tour” of 60 cities in 20 battleground states in an effort to get nontraditional voters to the polls.

Moore will speak at 8 p.m. at Williams Arena, with his appearance sponsored by the Minnesota Alliance for Progressive Action. He is competing with two other big events Friday: the first playoff home game for the Minnesota Twins and the second presidential debate.

“We’re encouraging people to tape the presidential debate and come see Michael Moore live,” said C. Scott Cooper, MAPA’s executive director.

Zellweger taking coffee break

London — “Bridget Jones’s Diary” star Renee Zellweger says she is taking a year out from movies to spend more time “drinking coffee with my friends.”

The actress, 35, just finished filming of the Bridget Jones sequel “The Edge of Reason.” She says that even the $11 million payday for reprising her role as the 30-something disaster-in-love couldn’t stop her from pining for a normal life.

“The work is all-encompassing, and there are so many things that you are not allowed in your life, because of it,” she said. “Conventional friendships, unconditional friendships. I’d like to have coffee every day with my friends.”
