The Heart of America Council announces that one of the recipients of the Silver Beaver Award for 2004 is Frank Wright, an active Scouter in the Pelathe District. The Silver Beaver is the highest award that a council can give to its volunteers. The presentation will be made at the council’s annual business meeting and recognition dinner Nov. 17 in Kansas City.

Cub Scout Pack 3057, chartered to the Lawrence Catholic Schools PTO, has kept busy with activities.

The Bear Den played volleyball, badminton and other games on Sept. 3. Those who attended were Adam Wagner, Jakob Walter, Clayton Pfeifer, Thomas Peterson, Monte Scott Turner II and Luke Fitzgerald. Adult Leaders and parents who assisted were Brian Walter, John Pfeifer, Kent Peterson, Mike Fitzgerald, Monte Turner and Scott Wagner.

The Wolf Den had a meeting Sept. 7. The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and the Cub Scout Promise. The boys then set up a Code of Conduct for future den meetings, decorated a sheet with the Scout Promise and the law of the Pack, and worked on steps to earn their Bobcat Badge. They also participated in relay events such as elephant walks, crab walks and frog jumps. Cubs who attended were August Murphy-Beach, Andrew Chavez, Eric Glogau, Jack Powell, Eli Schneck and Kyle Vogelsang. Den leaders are Marlon Schneck and Cyndy Glogau.

The Webelos Den met Sept. 6 and Sept. 10 to work on the Webelos Activities Badge. Those who participated were Jonathan Fitzgerald, Brady Murrish, Jacob Pfeifer, Lucas Vogelsang, Kolbe Murray, Franklin Brou and Nathan Shobe. Adults who helped were Bruce Murrish, John Pfeifer, Don Shobe and Ellen Shobe.

The following Webelos attended the Webelos Woods Weekend Sept. 17-19 at Camp Bromelsick: Jonathan Fitzgerald, Jacob Pfeifer, Lucas Vogelsang, Kolbe Murray, John Abney and Franklin Brou. They were accompanied by adult leaders Mike Fitzgerald, John Pfeifer, Ellen Shobe and Steve Vogelsang. Jonathan Fitzgerald and Kolbe Murray took fourth place in the canoeing event.

The pack meeting was Sept. 14 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Awards and recognitions for Day Camp and Camp Naish were given to Scouts and parent volunteers. The pack also had its fall recruiting.

The pack participated in the Sesquicentennial Parade on Sept. 18 by riding or walking with the St. John the Evangelist float along with Brownies, Girl Scouts, parishioners and the Rev. John Schmeidler. Cubs who participated were Austin Dominguez, Luke Turnbull, Alex Waite, Ben Witte, Sam Witte, Eric Glogau, August Murphy-Beach, Elias Schneck, Kyle Vogelsang, Simon Elwell, Luke Oberrieder, Thomas Peterson, Clayton Pfeifer, Jakob Walter, Adam Wagner and John Abney. Adult leaders who accompanied them were Charlie Dominguez, Brian Walter, Marlon Schneck, Cyndy Glogau, Mike Oberrieder, Kent Peterson, Greg Elwell and Chip Waite.
