Kansas Guard members to be deployed to Kosovo

? The Kansas Adjutant General’s Department announced Friday that 370 members of the Kansas Army National Guard have received mobilization orders to deploy to Kosovo.

About 350 of the soldiers are members of the 1st Battalion, 635th Armor, which operates the M1A1 Abrams, the Army’s primary battle tank. However, the soldiers will be helping to support troops and will not be taking their tanks. The battalion is headquartered in Manhattan with units in Emporia, Junction City and Lenexa.

The other 20 soldiers who are being deployed are members of the 24th Medical Company, a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter unit. They will provide air medical evacuation support and transport medical personnel, equipment and supplies.
