Wichita ? A man who escaped through the ceiling of a Municipal Court holding cell was discovered at an abandoned house Thursday night after authorities got a tip, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department said.

Mark McClough, 37, had escaped Tuesday morning while awaiting a court appearance. Officers from the Sheriff’s Department, Wichita Police, Kansas Department of Corrections and U.S. Marshal’s Service were involved in his arrest Thursday evening.

When officers went to the address after a 911 call, they saw somebody on the roof who jumped to the roof of an adjacent house and then to the ground. The man attempted to run away, but officers caught him in an alley.

He was taken to a hospital with an ankle injury suffered when he jumped from one of the rooftops to the ground.

McClough was paroled from prison in January after serving time for aggravated robbery. He was in the Sedgwick County Jail on felony charges of aggravated robbery and cocaine possession, and he had been taken to City Hall for the Municipal Court appearance on a misdemeanor drug paraphernalia charge.

Officials said he apparently escaped from the holding cell by removing a ceiling panel, crawling out and discarding his orange jail jump suit. The leg shackles he was wearing were not found.

Officials said after the escape that they had taken steps to improve security in the building.
