OAKLAND, CALIF. ? The Angels considered themselves a playoff team all along, even while they spent the summer playing catch up. Now they’re one win away.

Bartolo Colon dominated in seven sharp innings while pitching on three days’ rest for the third time in his career, and No. 9 hitter Alfredo Amezaga had a grand slam that led Anaheim over the Oakland Athletics, 10-0, Friday night.

Pinch-hitter Andres Galarraga led off the ninth with his first homer and No. 399 of his career. The Angels had hits from nine players to win for the sixth time in seven games and take a one-game AL West lead over the A’s with two to play.

Now, Oakland’s playoff hopes are in the hands of Barry Zito today. The A’s have reached the postseason the past four years, losing in the first round each time.

If the A’s win today, everything will come down to the series finale Sunday on the last day of the regular season — a matchup of Oakland’s Tim Hudson and Anaheim’s Jarrod Washburn.

Colon (18-12), who beat Kenny Rogers on Monday at Texas, won for the fifth time in six starts, retiring 13 of his first 15 batters. Colon pitched three-hit ball through seven innings, striking out six and walking none. Brendan Donnelly and Ramon Ortiz completed the four-hitter, the Angels’ 11th shutout.

Mark Mulder (17-8) has pitched so poorly the A’s briefly considered skipping his turn and using September callup Joe Blanton instead Friday. But they decided to turn to their “Big Three” pitchers of Mulder, Zito and Hudson for the final weekend — because “they have absolutely been the people who have put this organization on the map,” manager Ken Macha said.

Mariners 8, Rangers 3

Seattle — Ichiro Suzuki broke George Sisler’s 84-year-old single-season hits record, getting three hits to give him 259 for the season as Seattle beat Texas. Seattle lefty Ron Villone (8-6) pitched five solid innings to earn his second victory as a starter this season. He allowed two runs on two hits, striking out five and walking three.

Detroit — For the first time in its history, Tampa Bay won’t finish last. Rob Bell came within an out of his first career shutout before Ivan Rodriguez doubled for his 1,000th career RBI, and the Devil Rays beat Detroit to clinch fourth place in the AL East.

Twins 4, Indians 3

Minneapolis — Corey Koskie homered and hit a go-ahead two-run single in the eighth inning, lifting Minnesota over Cleveland.

Red Sox 8, Orioles 3

Baltimore — Tim Wakefield allowed two runs in six innings for his first victory since August, and Johnny Damon and David Ortiz homered to power Boston past Baltimore.

Blue Jays 7, Yankees 0

Toronto — David Bush pitched a two-hitter for the first complete game of his major-league career, and Toronto beat Orlando Hernandez and New York. Hernandez (8-2) lost his second straight start.
