Law enforcement report

Lawrence Police said Thursday that in the past 24 hours they’d handled:

  • 335 calls
  • 45 reports
  • Four burglaries
  • Six thefts
  • Eight noninjury accidents
  • One injury accident
  • Police responded to a call at 2:35 p.m. Thursday from Lawrence Alternative High School, 2600 W. 25th St. According to Julie Boyle, communications director for the Lawrence school district, the call involved a male student who allegedly hit another student, causing him to lose a tooth. Disciplinary action is pending, Boyle said, and police are investigating.

Injury Accidents

  • A Rantoul woman was injured Thursday morning in a single-car accident south of Wellsville. Hazel Burns was traveling north on Kansas Highway 33 when her Ford struck a deer at 6:25 a.m. Burns, 45, was taken to Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa. Hospital officials would not release information on her condition Thursday.

Burglaries and thefts reported

  • A 44-year-old Baldwin woman told police someone entered her home through a window between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday and took two gold rings worth $600 each and $50 in coins. The burglary happened in the 1000 section of North 150 Road.

  • Unintentional smoke detector activation, no fire, 7:05 a.m. Wednesday, 1429 Kasold Drive.
  • Rupture of steam pipe or pipeline, 6:36 a.m. Wednesday, 1651 Naismith Drive.
