Baker student hit by car on West Sixth

A 23-year-old Valley Center man has been hospitalized for injuries he suffered early this morning when he was struck by a car while crossing West Sixth Street.

Blake Pearson, 23, a Baker University student, was first taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital and later transported to University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan. , by ground ambulance because weather conditions did not allow helicopter ambulances to fly. No information was available about Pearson’s condition this morning.

Lawrence Police said the accident happened about 1:58 a.m. when Pearson was crossing from south to north on Sixth Street near the intersection of Crestline Drive.

Pearson was struck by a westbound Chevrolet Caprice driven by Christopher Brownell, 22, Lawrence, police said.
