Dance theater to perform at Lied

Although he created 79 ballets during his lifetime, Alvin Ailey maintained that his company was not exclusively a repository for his own work.

Two works by contemporary choreographers will join Ailey’s classic “Revelations” when the company performs at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Lied Center. Tickets are $18.50-$42 and can be purchased by calling 864-2787.

KU Ceramic Club sale in its gallery

The Kansas University Ceramic Club will have its annual sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday in the KU Art and Design Gallery.

The annual event will include work in ceramics, printmaking and metals. A portion of sales of ceramic pieces will fund scholarships in the ceramics program and bring visiting ceramic artists to the university.

The gallery is on the third floor of the Art and Design Building, at the northeast corner of 15th Street and Naismith Drive. For more information, call 864-4401.

Men’s basketball opens regular season

Kansas University’s men’s basketball team opens the regular season on Friday. The Jayhawks will tangle with the University of Vermont, beginning the farewell tour of veteran Vermont coach Tom Brennan, who has announced plans to retire after this season. Tipoff is 7 p.m. at Allen Fieldhouse.

Political humor celebrated at KU

The Capitol Steps comedy troupe will bring its song parodies Sunday to the Lied Center as part of Political Humor Month at the Dole Institute of Politics.

The group will perform at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the Lied Center box office or by calling 864-ARTS. They cost $10 for the public or $5 for students.

The Dole Institute also will play host to “Political Humor, Kansas Style” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

That event is free and open to the public.
