Recounts fail to alter Senate race outcomes

? Democrats remained the winners in two close Senate races after local election officials recounted votes Wednesday.

Democratic challenger Laura Kelly’s margin over Republican Sen. Dave Jackson stayed at 100 votes out of more than 30,000 cast in the Topeka area’s 18th District.

In the 32nd District in south-central Kansas, Democratic Sen. Greta Goodwin, of Winfield, prevailed over Republican Ray LaBoeuf, of Belle Plaine, by 220 votes out of more than 27,000 cast.

Democratic victories meant that Republicans did not increase the 30-10 Senate majority they had going into this year’s elections.
