Ruth Ellen Rhodes Metcalf

Topeka ? Memorial services for Ruth Ellen Rhodes Metcalf, 69, Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Community of Christ Church in Topeka.

Mrs. Metcalf died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, after a five-year struggle with cancer.

She was born May 19, 1935, in Liberal, the daughter of James Calvin and Etta Edith Case Rhodes.

She grew up in Emporia and Wichita, and graduated from Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa.

Mrs. Metcalf was a teacher. She also worked in food service and hospitality.

She belonged to Community of Christ Church in Topeka and was ordained as an elder in 1995.

She married Dewaine Metcalf on June 5, 1955. He died in 1988.

An infant son also died earlier.

She is survived by a daughter, Sarah Middleton.
