Betty Irene Holmes

Linwood ? Services for Betty Irene Holmes, 80, Linwood, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Quisenberry Funeral Home in Tonganoxie. Private inurnment will be in Mount Sidney Cemetery in Linwood.

Mrs. Holmes died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at her home.

She was born June 4, 1924, in Baldwin, the daughter of Earl and Nina Randel Mathia.

Mrs. Holmes was a homemaker, farm wife and seamstress. She trained with Sherman Township Fire Department. She was a member of Linwood United Methodist Church and served as president of the church women’s organization.

She married Quentin A. Holmes on Dec. 26, 1940, in Paola. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Melvin Holmes, Linwood; three brothers, Donald Mathia, Kansas City, Mo., Merle Mathia, Sumerville, Texas, and Harold Mathia, Muncie; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A son, Quentin A. Holmes Jr., died in 1943.

The family will receive friends after the services.
