Women mystery writers to talk, sign books

Julia Spencer-Fleming and Denise Hamilton, two prominent women mystery writers, will give talks and sign books from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt.

Spencer-Fleming’s newest is “Out of the Deep I Cry.” It features Spencer-Fleming’s reoccurring sleuth: a female Episcopal priest named Clare Fergusson. Hamilton will discuss her newest mystery, “Last Lullaby,” set in Los Angeles with sleuth Eve Diamond.

The event is sponsored by The Raven Bookstore and Trinity Episcopal Church.

Kansas author visits England to celebrate mystery writer

Celebrated Kansas-born crime writer Sara Paretsky was in London recently to pay a centenary tribute to the woman she credits as her major inspiration.

Paretsky, the creator of hard-boiled female detective V.I. Warshawski, unveiled a heritage plaque on the former London home of Margery Allingham.

Allingham, who created the legendary detective Inspector Campion, ranks alongside Agatha Christie as one of the original queens of detective fiction. Her books were famously adapted for PBS’s “Mystery!” series in the 1980s and ’90s.
