Guide to attending the ceremony today

Kansas University will conduct its 132nd commencement ceremony today at Memorial Stadium.

Barring inclement weather, the procession of graduates into the stadium begins at 2:30 p.m., with the ceremony set to begin about 3:30 p.m. It is expected to be complete by 4:15 p.m.

Parking

Free parking is available throughout campus. Shuttle buses to and from the stadium will run from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The loop route will have stops at the stadium, Kansas Union, Jayhawk Boulevard, Murphy Hall, the south parking garage near Allen Fieldhouse, Burge Union, Daisy Hill and the Lied Center.

Handicap accessibility

Handicap parking and drop-off areas are on the west side of the stadium, accessible from 11th and Maine streets, and on the east side at 11th and Mississippi streets. Seating for people with disabilities is available through Gate C.

Sign-language interpreters and reserved seating for people using interpreter services will be available in Sections 25 and 26, Rows 29-33.

Accommodations

Seatback rental and concessions will be available at Memorial Stadium beginning at 1 p.m. Restrooms are available on the concourse level.

Weather contingency

If it is raining this morning, an announcement will be made by 1 p.m. about arrangements for the postponed ceremony. The announcement will be available on Sunflower Broadband Channel 6 or on the Internet at www.ljworld.com. Information also will be available through the KU Info Center (864-3506) and radio stations including: KJHK-FM 90.7; KANU-FM 91.5; KFKF-FM 94.1; KLZR-FM 105.9; WIBW-AM 580; WDAF-AM 610; KMBZ-AM 980; and KLWN-AM 1320.

  • If the weather begins to clear in early afternoon, the first attempt to have a postponed ceremony will be at 4:30 p.m. Graduates will assemble on Memorial Drive at 4 p.m.
  • If the weather doesn’t begin to clear in time for a 4:30 p.m. ceremony, a second attempt to have a ceremony will be made at 6:30 p.m. Graduates will assemble on Memorial Drive at 6 p.m.
  • If it is still raining, the ceremony will be postponed until Monday, when graduates will line up at 8:30 a.m. for a 9 a.m. procession.

Simulcast

The ceremony will be simulcast live on a big-screen television in Woodruff Auditorium, on the fifth floor of the Kansas Union.

Television

The ceremony will be shown live on KUJH-TV, Sunflower Broadband Channel 32. It will be rebroadcast at 7 p.m. Monday and 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The ceremony also can be viewed live on the Internet at www.digitaljayhawk.org.

Video board

The procession and ceremony will be shown on the video board at Memorial Stadium.

Alcohol

KU prohibits the use of alcohol on campus.
