Kansas golf 18th at NCAA Central Regional

? Kansas University’s men’s golf team was 18th out of 27 teams Friday after the second of three rounds of the NCAA Central Regional.

The 25th-ranked Jayhawks had a second-round score of 300 and a two-round total of 615 on the 7,259-yard, par-72 Kampen Course at Purdue’s Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.

“The team played better today,” KU coach Ross Randall said. “We moved up considerably, but we are still pretty far out of contention.”

Kentucky leads with 557 strokes, followed by Oklahoma State (585) and Texas (594).

KU junior Kevin Ward leads the Jayhawks. He is tied for 42nd after a second-round 75 for a two-round total of 152.

“We have a formidable task ahead of us tomorrow,” Randall said, “so hopefully we can play our best.”

The tournament will conclude this morning.
