Ann Leiker, a junior at Kansas University, recently received the Donna Evans Kingsbury scholarship award. She received her award during a May 10 recognition ceremony. Leiker, a 2001 Free State High School graduate, is studying history. She is the daughter of Leo and Elaine Leiker, Lawrence.

  • Drew Robbins, Perry, received a $500 Alumni Association Scholarship from the Kansas Area Tigers Alumni chapter of the University of Missouri-Columbia. He is a senior at Perry-Lecompton High School and the son of Kris and Nadine Robbins.
  • Nicholas Oswald, Lecompton, graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma, Edmond, Okla., with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics education. Commencement exercises were May 7-8.
  • Shelly Maas, Lawrence, received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education May 15 at Washburn University, Topeka. She served as president of the Washburn Education Assn. for two years and as an officer for one year. She was a member of the National Council of Teachers for Mathematics. She participated in many Read Across America events and completed her student teaching at Pleasant Hill Elementary School in Topeka.
  • Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Mo., announced area students who made honors during the 2004 spring trimester. Amy Schmitz, Baldwin, made the academic honor roll by maintaining at least a 3.5 grade-point average. Elizabeth Lee, Lawrence, made the president’s honor roll by attaining a 4.0 grade-point average.

  • Megan Bushell, Lawrence, has been invited to join Beta Gamma Sigma, an honor society that recognizes the outstanding academic achievements of students enrolled in collegiate business and management programs. Bushell is the daughter of Donald and Barbara Bushell, Lawrence. She is studying entrepreneurship and music business at Wichita State University.
