Senator Bob Lyon of Kansas’ 3rd Senate District said today he would not seek reelection next fall due to changes in his full-time employment.

“Last October, I went through a long evaluation process of whether or not to run again, and decided to go for it,” Lyon said. “But during the legislative break in April, my employer approached me with a request for greater service that would preclude taking the necessary four-month leave every year for the legislative session.”

For 24 years, Lyon has worked for HNTB in Kansas City as a structural engineer.

The 3rd District includes Baldwin, Eudora and part of Lawrence in Douglas County; and Basehor, Easton, Linwood and Tonganoxie in Leavenworth County.

Until the November election, Lyon said he would fulfill his inter-session senatorial duties in committee assignments and constituent assistance.
