Jeff and Kristie Hatfield, Lawrence, announce the birth of a daughter, Paige McKinley Hatfield, born May 6, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She has a brother, Tucker, 2.

Maternal grandparents are Dan and Carolyn Lambert, Baldwin. Paternal grandparents are Larry and Mary Hatfield, Lawrence. Great-grandparents are W.W. Hatfield, Lawrence; Emma Morozzo, Lawrence; and Thelma Bright, Baldwin.

Rodney and Melissa Eklund, Lawrence, announce the birth of a son, Alexander Ervin Eklund, born May 6, 2004, in Lawrence. He has two brothers, Skylar, 5, and Elijah, 2.

Maternal grandparents are Doug and Margaret Eiler, Redwood Falls, Minn. Paternal grandmother is Elaine Eklund, Lawrence.

Suzuki piano students of Sue Kwak had their spring recital May 8 at her studio. The National Guild of Piano Teachers sponsored auditions for Lawrence piano students in May at Plymouth Congregational Church. Dennis “D.J.” Hilding, Lawrence, was honored May 10 during the KU-Jayhawk Senior and Scholar Athlete Banquet. He received the Jayhawk Scholar Award for his achievement on the Academic All-Big 12 first team and for making the athletic director’s honor roll in men’s cross country, track and field.

Hilding, a 2000 graduate of Lawrence High School, is majoring in sports management and administration. He is the son of Jerel and Krystyna Hilding, Lawrence.

East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corp. has chosen Ian Yoon, a Lawrence High School student, for a $500 scholarship.

The staff of Williamstown Elementary School would like to honor Paula Kellogg for her 29 years of service. Since Kellogg requested no retirement reception, the school encourages family, friends and students to send tokens of appreciation such as cards, notes, stories and pictures, next week. The Lawrence Accredited Music Teachers’ Assn. will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 N.H.

The students represent the studios of Carol Cook, John Boulton and Elaine de San Miguel.

Julius Tyron Fulton, Lawrence, received a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from Elmhurst College, Elmhurst, Ill., during a commencement ceremony on Feb. 8.

Patricia Averill, Lawrence, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in musical theater during commencement May 8 at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, Colo.

Dhwani Shah has been elected by the student body at Saint Mary’s School in Raleigh, N.C., to serve as the chairwoman of student life for the 2003-2004 academic year. She is the daughter of Naina Shah and Kiran Shah, both of Lawrence.
