Jayhawks trip Tech, fall to Texas A&M

? Kansas University’s softball team beat Texas Tech, 5-1, then lost to Texas A&M, 1-0, Wednesday at the Big 12 Conference softball tournament at ASA Softball Stadium.

KU’s Kara Pierce (18-12) pitched a two-hitter versus Tech. The Jayhawks slugged seven hits off two Red Raider pitchers.

In the second game, A&M plated the game’s only run in the first after a walk by Pierce, stolen base, ground out and wild pitch. KU (32-27) outhit Texas A&M, 4-2, but stranded five runners, including two in the seventh.

“Kara was sharp,” KU coach Tracy Bunge said. “It’s tough when they get a leadoff batter on base and she scores on a wild pitch. The difference was capitalizing on opportunities.”

KU will meet the loser of today’s Missouri-Oklahoma State game at 2 p.m. today.
