World Company wins two Internet awards

For the second straight year, the World Company received multiple international awards for its Internet sites from Editor & Publisher and Mediaweek magazines.

KUsports.com won the Best Internet Sports Service award and Lawrence.com was named Best Internet Entertainment Service on Wednesday at the Interactive Media Conference & Trade Show in Atlanta. More than 500 entries from media companies across the world were nominated for the awards.

“With an amazing local music scene and one of the best collegiate athletic programs in the nation, Lawrence deserves to have sites that live up to those standards,” said Rob Curley, World Company director of New Media/Convergence. “These awards represent all the outstanding hard work done by both the Internet staff and the news operations from the Journal-World and 6News. I’m really proud to work with such talented and dedicated folks.”

KUsports.com beat the Dallas Morning News’ CowboysPlus.com and CBC Sports’ Soccer Tracker.

Lawrence.com beat the Los Angeles Times’ Calendarlive.com and The Seattle Times’ NWSource.com. Lawrence.com was named best entertainment site by the Newspaper Association of America earlier this year.

Other media outlets honored with two awards Wednesday were CNN, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and Thirteen/WNET New York.

LJWorld.com was nominated in the Best Overall Newspaper-affiliated Internet Service category, but lost to NYNewsday.com.
