Former Jayhawk arrested

Kansas University senior Adrian Jones was arrested early Saturday morning for operating a vehicle under the influence. Jones later posted $500 bail and was released from Douglas County Jail.

Jones, a 6-foot-5, 300-pound left tackle who was a team captain last season, was the New York Jets’ fourth-round pick in last month’s NFL draft.

Jones’ agent declined comment Saturday night.

KU-Kentucky nearly set

Tradition-rich college basketball programs Kansas University and Kentucky are zeroing in on a date for next year’s game at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Ky.

CBS officials have indicated they’ve set a tentative date of Sunday, Jan. 9, for the game. The teams would conclude the two-year home-and-home series in 2005-06 in Lawrence.

“I think we’ll get the series done. I don’t know about the date until I hear from the (Big 12) conference office,” KU senior associate athletic director Larry Keating said Saturday.

“It’ll be a January/February date. It’s got to be a bye date (for KU in league play). We have talked about that weekend (of Jan. 8, 9).”
