To the editor:

Larry McGlinn’s letter (Public Forum, May 5) expressed his anger and frustration that we in Lawrence “elect Republicans … who vote like Democrats,” demonstrate “against U.S. foreign policy and our leaders,” invite “Jocelyn Elders … to speak at the Lied Center,” express “opposition to the Patriot Act,” “rank in the top 10 … in the percentage of gay- or lesbian-led households,” and “invite Bill Clinton” to speak at the Dole Institute.

Gee, Larry, thanks for expressing many of the reasons I love it here in Lawrence. Maybe you’d be happier in Manhattan? Lots of purple there! As they say, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

Doug Burger,
