Elizabeth L. ‘Boots’ Bray Murphy

Funeral Mass for Elizabeth L. “Boots” Bray Murphy, 75, Lawrence, will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Private inurnment is planned.

Mrs. Murphy died Thursday, May 6, 2004, at her home.

She was born Nov. 13, 1928, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of William and Elizabeth Maggard Wimsatt. She graduated from Providence Hospital/St. Mary College School of Nursing in 1949.

Mrs. Murphy was a member of Leavenworth Small Faith Group, the Mother-to-Mother programs in Lawrence and Leavenworth, Sierra Club of Lawrence and Daughters of Isabella and Renew at the church.

She married Edward J. Bray on Nov. 25, 1950. He died in October 1988. She married James K. Murphy on Oct. 8, 1994. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include five daughters, Christa Hansen, Eugene, Ore., Mary Cordill, Prairie Village, Emily Perry, Reno, Nev., Cara Rantner, Lawrence, and Tracy McGinnis, West Point, N.Y.; two sons, Edward Bray, Merriam, and Britt Bray, Lawrence; two stepdaughters, Sheila Murphy, Surry, England, and Katie Holmes, Lansing; four stepsons, Jim Murphy, Topeka, Ken Murphy, Alexandria, Va., Timothy Murphy, Shawnee, and Sean Murphy, Leavenworth; two brothers, Joseph Wimsatt, St. Louis, and Peter Wimsatt, Dubuque, Iowa; a sister, Carol Fuss, St. Louis; 38 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A stepdaughter, Maryellen Risley, died earlier.

Family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, where a parish rosary will be said at 7 p.m.

The family suggests memorials to the University of St. Mary in Leavenworth for an endowed scholarship in her name, sent in care of the mortuary.
