Highlights from the Kansas Legislature

Highlights of Thursday’s activities at the Kansas Legislature:

  • Undaunted by Senate resistance to raising taxes, House members who backed a $155 million increase in state aid to schools offered a scaled-back version of that plan.
  • Legislators sent Gov. Kathleen Sebelius a bill clarifying that lobbyists do not have to file reports on meals they buy for legislators at national conferences or during gatherings of legislative committees.
  • Proponents of allowing Sunday alcohol sales were ready to give up efforts to rewrite state liquor laws.

Clock is ticking:

Thursday was the ninth day of the wrap-up session and the 87th day in session overall, out of 90 scheduled.
