Lawrence manufacturing plant announces cuts

Lawrence-based E and E Display Group announced today that is laying off 73 people at its manufacturing plant in response to sagging sales.

The cuts bring the company’s work force to about 90 employees, company president and chief executive Kathy Schmidt said. The layoffs, which included both production and office workers, were effective immediately.

The company, which manufactures store fixtures and displays, also is seeking a buyer to continue operations in Lawrence. Ed White, a member of the company’s ownership group, said the business needs to find a buyer by July, or else the company may be forced to close or sell to a company that would discontinue operations in Lawrence.
