Smoking ban proposal back on table

Bottom line

The Lawrence City Commission will consider approval of a ban on smoking in nearly all buildings open to the public, including bars and restaurants.

Background

The discussion comes two weeks after commissioners said they would back an effort to let the public decide the issue through a referendum. They appear likely to reverse that course today, and will make the final decision themselves.
