Chalmers books KU visit

Mario Chalmers, a 6-foot-1 high school junior point guard from Anchorage, Alaska, will make an official recruiting visit to Kansas University on May 14-15.

Chalmers, who met with KU coach Bill Self on Friday, has visited Arizona and also is considering Wake Forest, Georgia Tech and UCLA.

“Kansas has always been in Mario’s top five, but I would say that Kansas Arizona and Wake Forest are the top three schools right now,” Chalmers’ dad, Ronnie, told Shay Wildeboor of rivals.com.

Malik Hairston, a 6-5 senior from Detroit, who visited Oklahoma and Michigan last weekend, tells theinsiders.com he likely would have a final decision “later in the week.” He still has KU, UCLA, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon and Oklahoma on his list.

Ex-Jayhawk to demo turbo-jav throwing

Eudora — Former Kansas University javelin thrower Scott Russell will put on a turbo-jav throwing demonstration at 5 p.m. today at Laws Field. He’ll be joined by former high school standout Darrin Kurtz.

The turbo jav is lighter than a regular javelin, designed for use by young athletes to train for a career in the javelin.
