Larona Ann Calkins

Mrs. Calkins died Saturday, May 1, 2004, at her home.

She was born June 19, 1920, in Oklahoma City, the daughter of Dewitt D. and Johnnie Mae Gaylor Durall. She moved from Mesa, Ariz., to Lawrence in September 1991.

Mrs. Calkins was a homemaker and had worked as a secretary for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, and Hughes Aircraft in Hawthorn, Calif. She was a member of First Christian Church and the church’s Christian Women’s Fellowship.

She married E. Lee Calkins Jr. on April 30, 1948, in Wichita. He died March 5, 1991.

A son, John Calkins, died in 1995.

Survivors include two daughters, Katie Studebaker, Lawrence, and Carol Murray, Wichita; a son, Neal Calkins, Moses Lake, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn. or the American Cancer Society, sent in care of the mortuary.
