SM South nips Firebirds in tennis dual, 5-4

? Free State’s boys tennis team fell, 5-4, Tuesday at Shawnee Mission South in its first dual of the season.

The Firebirds and Raiders split six singles matches, but South took the doubles portion, 2-1, to claim the overall victory.

Senior Bryan Maygers went 2-0 for Free State, winning his singles match 8-3 over Spencer Pozek. Maygers and partner Keith Pipkin also won their No. 1 doubles match.

“Losing a dual by one match is certainly frustrating,” said FSHS coach Jon Renberger. “But we played hard, and we will benefit greatly from the experience.”
