Royals, Angels settle for 8-8 tie

? Tim Salmon went 3-for-4 with a home run, and Troy Glaus hit a mammoth two-run homer as the Anaheim Angels and the Kansas City Royals played an 8-8 tie in 11 innings on Thursday night.

Glaus homered with two outs in the seventh and Salmon aboard to break a 5-5 tie. Glaus’ fourth home run this spring came off Royals left-hander Jaime Cerda.

Shane Halter, a former Royal, homered as a pinch hitter in the eight to give the Angels an 8-5 advantage.

The Royals scored three unearned runs in the ninth after reserve second baseman Brian Specht committed an error.

Damaso Espino’s single with two out tied the score. Carlos Beltran’s sacrifice fly and David DeJesus’ single brought in the other runs in the ninth inning.

Joe Randa hit a two-run homer in the second off Angels starter Ramon Ortiz. Both Mike Sweeney and Angel Berroa doubled in the Royals’ two-run third.

Royals starter Jeremy Affeldt was roughed up for five runs on 11 hits and one walk over five innings.

Ortiz yielded four runs on six hits and two walks over four innings.
