Constance V. Van Welden

Memorial services for Constance V. Van Welden, 80, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at Trinity Episcopal Church. A memorial service and inurnment will be later in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Mrs. Van Welden died Saturday, March 20, 2004, at Overland Park Regional Hospital.

She was born Nov. 3, 1923, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Lloyd and Martha (Wedel) Washburn. She graduated from Central High School in Kalamazoo in 1942 and from Bronson School of Nursing in Kalamazoo in 1945. She moved from Kalamazoo to Lawrence in 2001.

Mrs. Van Welden was a nurse in Kalamazoo and worked at the hospital and with private practice doctors. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and Mount Oread Aerie 309 of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.

She married Walter Van Welden on April 19, 1944, in South Bend, Ind. He died in 1982.

Survivors include two daughters, Sheryl Williams, Lawrence, and Wendy Doherty, Portage, Mich.; a son, Larry Van Welden, Gobles, Mich.; a sister, Gloria Walters, Portage; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the nursing scholarship at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
