The Knights of Columbus Council 1372 announced its Knight and Family of the Month for February.

Duane Boor was named Knight of the Month. He has been a member of the Knights for five years. Boor is the council director and previously was Grand Knight. Boor helps with Bingo, the free throw contest and parish breakfasts.

The Mark Klug family was named the Family of the Month. Mark Klug has been a member of the Knights for 34 years. He is retention director. Mark and his wife, Sue, and their children Brad and Jared are very active in church. Mark is an usher. Sue is involved with Birthright and the prayer chain. Jared is an alter server. Brad completed an Eagle Scout project at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Mark also is involved with Scouts.

University Bridge Club announces winners of its March 13 game. Lois Liebert, Marian Lang, and Leo and Mona Langlois were hosts.

Blue winners were Alice Akins, first; Harold Riehm, second; Roy Cropp, third; Karmie Galle, fourth; and Leo Langlois, fifth.

Pink winners were Florence McNicoll, first; Bette Lukens, second; Carol Smith, third; Hazel Stellmacher, fourth; and Ailene Bocquin, fifth.

The Douglas County Family and Community Education Council met March 2 in Deal Six Auditorium. Myrna Hartford, president, announced the Northeast Area Spring Council meeting will be April 1 in Manhattan. The district meeting will be May 6 in Wyandotte County at the Agricultural Hall of Fame.

Callie Fishburn, a Douglas County 4-H ambassador, presented a talk on the 4-H ambassador program.

Susan Krumm, an Extension agent in family and consumer sciences with K-State Research and Extension-Douglas County, announced that Walk Kansas is March 13-May 7.

Lola Ford and Aliene Bieber will be in charge of the extension booth from 9 a.m. to noon March 27 at the Baldwin Health Fair. Information on the low-income Family Nutrition Education program was handed out.

The next Red Cross blood drive will be April 29 at First Christian Church. Kaw Valley and India FCE units each are to furnish five dozen cookies.

The council decided to give a $50 grant from the Glenna Felts Memorial Fund to India FCE. The unit will make scrap books for rest homes and Lawrence Memorial Hospital’s pediatric ward.

The Spring Tea will be April 23 in Building 21 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. A meeting to fill out program accomplishment reports will be at 1 p.m. April 16.

The next council meeting will be at 9 a.m. April 13 at Bismarck Lake Guest House.

The Lawrence 299ers Duplicate Bridge Club met March 10. Nine pairs competed in a stratified game that used a Howell movement. Don Brennaman directed the game.

Barb Hamilton and Bill Hamilton finished first in A. Emily Foster and Al Ballard took second in A and first in B. Helen Huffman and Bob Huffman were third in A.

The Lawrence TGIF Duplicate Bridge Club met March 12. Nine tables of competitors participated. Don Brennaman directed the game.

Playing North-South, Don Daugherty and Harry Talley claimed first place in A, B and C. Dan Osman and Olivier Urruty placed second in A, B and C. Harry Shaffer and Lois Clark took third in A.

Sitting East-West, Paul Heitzman and Dave Piro finished first in A. Carol Ball and Ginny Johnston placed second in A and first in B and C. Don Bush and Bob Huffman were third in A and second in B and C.

The Lawrence Duplicate Bridge Club met Monday. Nine and a half tables competed in a stratified game that used a Rover Mitchell movement. Virginia Seaver directed the game.

Playing the North-South cards, James Zhang and Harry Shaffer finished first in A. Kent McCullough and Larry Bodle were second in A. Cathy Blumenfeld and Mike Blumenfeld placed third in A and first in B and C. Pat Lombardi and Donna Munson were second in B.

Competing East-West, Vern Gregg and Don Bush claimed first place in A, B and C. John Hickey and Patt Radford placed second in A. Mona Bell and Julia Brooks were third in A. Donna Johnson and Dave Piro were fourth in A. Phyllis Brownlee and Madelyn Jenks were second in B.
