Hollywood consultant remembers the Alamo

Frank Thompson, an author and historical consultant on a new movie, “The Alamo,” will be the guest speaker tonight at Watkins Community Museum of History, 1047 Mass.

The event, sponsored by the Hall Center for the Humanities, will begin at 6 p.m. Those attending are welcome to bring their own brown bag dinner, organizers said.

Thompson will speak at 6:30 p.m. about history, film and what happens when they collide. Discussions, including a question-and-answer session, will last until 8 p.m.

Thompson is recognized as an authority on historical films. He has written more than 30 books.

Humanities council seeks board members

The Kansas Humanities Council is accepting nominations for service on its 22-member board of directors. Seven positions are expected to be filled this year.

Board members serve without pay in three-year terms. The board meets three times a year.
