Missouri, Shockers accept bids

It’d be a dream matchup of former assistants to Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski — if only it was in that other March tournament.

But instead of meeting in the NCAAs, Missouri coach Quin Snyder will face fellow Duke alumnus and Michigan coach Tommy Amaker on Tuesday in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament.

Wichita State and Saint Louis also accepted NIT bids.

For the first time in his five seasons in Columbia, Mo., Snyder didn’t guide the Tigers into the NCAA field, having posted a 16-13 record and sixth-place finish in the Big 12 Conference.

Snyder held out hope Sunday the Tigers’ strong non-conference schedule — including games against NCAA teams Gonzaga, Illinois and Memphis — would be enough to earn his team a place in the field of 65.

“We do have an opportunity to objectively to evaluate our scheduling philosophy,” Snyder said. “We’ve been told that you’re rewarded for playing a difficult schedule and that wasn’t the case here.”

Missouri hasn’t missed the NCAA Tournament since 1998.

WSU, which failed to get an NCAA bid despite its first 20-win season in 16 years, will entertain Florida State Wednesday.
