Lawrence students to aid in KU orientation

Two Kansas University students from Lawrence have been named orientation assistants for the summer.

Matthew Goble, a freshman graduate of Free State High School, and Patrick Ross, a sophomore who received his General Educational Development diploma, are among the 20 students selected.

Orientation assistants offer first-time freshmen, transfer students and readmitted students information about the university during 27 events scheduled this summer.

The assistants are selected through a process that involves essay writing, group interaction activities, a five-minute speech and a final interview.

Blood center drive revolves around tourney

The Community Blood Center will stage its fourth-annual March Madness Blood Drive this week.

Anyone who donates blood Monday through Saturday at the Lawrence neighborhood donor center, 1410 Kasold Drive, or the Topeka neighborhood center, 800 Lane, will receive a free March Madness T-shirt and a chance to win a 27-inch Panasonic flat-screen television.

Donors must be at least 17 years old and weigh 110 pounds or more to be eligible.

The drive is sponsored by KTPK-FM 106.9, a Topeka-based country music station.
