Beltran homers in Royals’ loss

? Chris Magruder went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs to power the Milwaukee Brewers past the Kansas City Royals, 6-4, Saturday.

Carlos Beltran, who missed the previous four games because of soreness in his right forearm, returned to the Kansas City lineup and homered in his first at-bat.

“I feel better than I thought I would feel,” Beltran said. “That’s good. Sometimes your mind says you can’t do it, but when you just go out there and do it, you feel happy.

“I feel happy because I didn’t feel the pain in the forearm. That meant it’s healing pretty good,” he said.

The Brewers improved to 10-1, the best spring training record in the majors. They won only 11 games in all of spring training last year.

Magruder, trying to earn a job as a reserve outfielder, homered leading off the fifth against left-hander Brian Anderson. He also had an RBI single in the sixth, when the Brewers scored three runs to take the lead for good, and stole a base.

The Brewers had 12 hits and lead the National League with a .320 batting average and 74 runs this spring. They also had three doubles, including two by Junior Spivey, and top the league with 36 doubles.

“I really like our approach at the plate right now,” manager Ned Yost said. “I like it a lot. I don’t know if our pitching is a surprise, but I like the fact we’re not walking anybody.”

Notes: The Royals reassigned 11 non-roster invitees to the minor-league camp Saturday. They were right-handed pitchers Donnie Bridges, Jimmy Serrano and Eric Thompson, left-handed pitchers Mike Venafro and Les Walrond, infielders Gookie Dawkins, Wilton Guerrero, Calvin Pickering and Rick Short, and outfielders Adrian Brown and Alan Moye.
