Calvary Temple Assembly of God

March is National Boys and Girls Missionary Crusade month, with offerings going to the missionaries for supplies they need to help children.

Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th St. Terrace, will be participating in this effort.

Clinton Parkway Assembly of God

Clinton Parkway Assembly of God, 3200 Clinton Parkway, will continue the study on Esther offered at 7 p.m. Wednesdays. The “Foundation Stones” discipleship class also is at 7 p.m. Wednesdays.

Laura Petrie leads the study “The Purpose Driven Life” at 7 p.m. Mondays and 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays.

The quilt club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the church’s activity center.

The men of the church will meet at 9 a.m. every other Saturday to study the “Wild at Heart” series by John Eldridge. Next meeting is March 20.

Worship Involving Severely Handicapped will meet at 10:30 a.m. March 20.

Corpus Christi Catholic Church

Coffee and doughnuts will be served after Sunday Masses at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6001 W. 15th St.

Reconciliation is from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, followed by evening prayer from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the church.

Adoration will be from 7:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday.

Stations of the cross will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

First Presbyterian Church

People interested in joining First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway, are invited to participate in the 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday school hour, as members seek to discern the direction, vision and priorities for the church and congregation.

Fellowship time starts at 10 a.m.

Evening worship at 5 p.m. Sundays is an experience of praise, reflection and celebration as Christians journey through Lent.

The church’s Lenten series continues at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the fellowship hall, featuring a discussion about how to serve others and why service is important to spiritual life.

First United Methodist Church

As part of the ongoing sesquicentennial celebration of First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt., the congregation will dedicate a new sanctuary cross above the altar at the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service.

The 50th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education also will be remembered Sunday. The Rust College A Capella Choir will sing at the 11 a.m. Sunday service.

The choir, from Holly Springs, Miss., will be part of the Kansas University Continuing Education Conference on The Legacies and Unfinished Business of Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, which will be from Sunday through Wednesday on campus.

Charles Scott, son and grandson of the two attorneys who filed the Brown v. Board suit, will offer insights and lead discussion surrounding this historic event. They will participate in Sunday Night Live! activities, with a meal served at 6 p.m. and discussion from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Brady Hall.

Immanuel Lutheran Church & University Student Center

A series of Lenten services and activities will be offered Wednesday evenings through March at Immanuel Lutheran Church & University Student Center, 2104 W. 15th St.

A discussion of the films “The Passion of the Christ” and “The Gospel of John” will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. At 7:30 p.m., there will be a Lenten service. The theme is “The Road to Jerusalem,” the fourth in a series titled “This Lenten Road.”

Lawrence Wesleyan Church

In conjunction with pastors from six other Lawrence churches, the Rev. Nate Rovenstine will continue the “True or False?” sermon series, based on “The Passion of the Christ” film, during Sunday services at Lawrence Wesleyan Church, 3705 Clinton Parkway.

The question addressed by Rovenstine’s sermon will be “Jesus Died for You: True or False?”

A traditional service is at 8:30 a.m., with contemporary worship at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. Sunday school and adult Bible fellowships are at 9:45 a.m., followed by a time of fellowship.

Plymouth Congregational Church

The chapel choir, accompanied by the Rev. Lew Hinshaw on guitar, will perform at the 9:30 a.m. service at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt.

Senior high youth group will have auditions from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at the church. The group is looking for performers for the special, contemporary Easter service.

All are invited to join church members at the 2 p.m. Sunday showing of “The Passion of the Christ” at Southwind Twelve Theaters. There will be a “pre-viewing” discussion-group meeting during fellowship hour at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. After the movie, Luckey will lead a discussion group at 4:30 p.m. at the church.

Fifth- and sixth-graders will meet at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Southwind Twelve Theaters to see the film “Cody Banks II.”

St. John’s United Church of Christ

Lenten services will be at 6 p.m. Sundays during March at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Baldwin. Mary Lou Klein is leading the half-hour meditation, and special music will be provided. The Rev. Fred Craig is pastor.

The church will sponsor an April 4 trip to Lindsborg for Palm Sunday to hear Handel’s “The Messiah” at Bethany College.

St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church

The church’s children will participate in a special science project at the 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sunday services at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St.

Youth group will meet at 6:45 p.m. Sunday.

The Bible for Busy People program will continue to meet Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Trinity Episcopal Church

Deacon Rita Tracy will lead the last of two sessions of “Praying with Icons” from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. today in the parish hall of Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt.

Deacon Dick Tracy will present the 9:30 a.m. Sunday adult forum, “Saints Peter and Paul and the Christian Revolution,” in the parish hall.

Youth group will offer a baked potato bar after both Sunday services. Proceeds will go toward supporting the youth mission trip this summer.

Lenten study on the book “Opening the Bible,” led by the Rev. Jonathon Jensen, continues from 5:05 p.m. to 5:50 p.m. Wednesday in the Matthews Center.

A discussion of the Rev. Barbara Taylor Brown’s book, “Speaking of Sin: The Lost Language of Salvation,” continues from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday in the church library. Deacon Carolyn Graham leads the group.

Trinity Lutheran Church

The Rev. Susan Candea will begin a series of sessions on “Engaging the New Testament” from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H.

This is the second part of a course on biblical accounts of the beginnings of the Christian Church, through the letters of St. Paul through Revelation, as part of the training through Lutheran House of Studies.

On Wednesday, first communion training will be at 5 p.m., and a study called “Getting at the Gospel” at 7:30 p.m. The study is primarily for new church members, but it is open to all wanting to investigate or review Lutheran beliefs.

Throughout Lent, people can gather from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. Mondays in the chapel to reflect, share and pray about the lesson for the following Sunday.

A retreat for those in Stephen Ministry is set from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon March 20 in the social room.

Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence

A spiritual celebration, “A Sharing of Music and Spirituality,” will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, 1263 N. 1100 Road.

A program, “Welcoming Congregations,” will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sunday, followed by coffee and fellowship from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The third in the series of Lenten studies, “The Common People Heard Him Gladly,” will be at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The Session will convene at 6:30 p.m.

Lydia Circle meets at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, and the Martha Circle meets at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Children’s choir will meet at its usual Wednesday time, but the rehearsals of the bell and adult choirs have been moved to 7 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. Friday, respectively.
