LOUISBURG ? Baldwin High’s boys basketball team knew it would need to stop Eric Hermreck to have a chance to stop Anderson County in their Class 4A sub-state game Friday at Louisburg High.

But Hermreck scored a game-high 29 points to help Anderson County end the Bulldogs’ season, 72-58.

“This is the third time we played them, and it doesn’t matter what we did to (Hermreck),” BHS coach Jeff Haas said. “He got his points. It didn’t matter what defense we were in.”

Anderson County bolted to a 20-13 lead after a quarter and led, 39-22, at halftime.

“We made it interesting,” Haas said. “I was proud of our comeback attempt. But Anderson County is a heck of a team. We were down 17 at the break, so we were down quite a ways. They’ve got all the pieces to get to state and do well there.”

Baldwin’s comeback attempt was blunted by Anderson County’s free-throw shooting prowess. It hit 14 of 16 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Andy Hannon led Baldwin (9-13) with 21 points. Jeremy Wright added 13, and Austin Inzer contributed 10.
