Baldwin, Bones deliver for Ottawa

? Behind a strong inside-outside effort by Clint Bones and Lee Baldwin, the Ottawa boys basketball defeated Paola, 66-51, in Class 5A sub-state action Wednesday at OHS.

Baldwin, a senior guard, scored 32 points, while Bones, a senior forward, added 24. It was more than enough to fuel Ottawa, which improved to 16-5 and is within one game of advancing to the 5A state tournament.

“We played pretty well defensively,” Ottawa coach David Grover said. “We let them hang around in the second quarter, though.”

The Cyclones will face Roeland Park Miege, which beat Pittsburg, 66-47, Wednesday. Both teams went to the state tournament last year, though Ottawa was in 4A.

“Miege is very good,” Grover said. “They’ve got two great guards and two really good post players.”
