NAIA swim meet to begin today

Lawrence playing host to 15 teams

Simon Fraser University and Cal Baptist figure to battle for team titles again during the four-day NAIA swimming and diving championships at the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center.

Simon Fraser, located in Vancouver, B.C., captured both the men’s and women’s titles last year at LIAC with Cal Baptist runner-up in both team races.

It was the fifth NAIA title in six years and 14th overall for Simon Fraser.

The SFU women are four-time defending champions. They’ve won 10 of the 23 titles in championship history, dating to 1981.

Fifteen teams and more than 260 swimmers are expected for the meet, which will begin today and end Saturday. Preliminaries and finals in diving and in the 800-yard relay will begin at 1 p.m. today.

Sessions Thursday through Saturday will have preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased at LIAC. Balcony tickets are $10 per day or $25 for the week. Pool deck tickets are $15 per day or $40 for the week.

In addition to the swim events, the NAIA Hall of Fame banquet will be at 7 p.m. today at the Holidome.
